Around 50% of antibiotics worldwide, are being brought to the black market in countries like Asia, South Africa, where they are often sold over the counter without the prescription, perturbing the Global Health Economy due to rising concerns towards antibiotic resistance.

HIV and HCV Co-infection

Pakistan, despite being classified as the low prevalence and high-risk country, is now in the concentrated phase of HIV epidemic with nearly one in fourth injection drug users in an urban setting of Pakistan HIV-positive. Regardless of the low prevalence rate of HIV in general population, reports show local outbreak among injection drug users (IDU) whose linkages and sexual networking in the general population makes Pakistan vulnerable to the treatment of a generalized epidemic.

Green Nano-biotics from Olive leave extracts-A Next Generation Antimicrobial Drug against Multidrug-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacteria

Nosocomial infections, caused by multi drug-resistant (MDR) bacteria are posing alarming threats worldwide, with a waning global health and cost burden as they are sixth leading cause of death worldwide. Moreover, current antibiotics treatments against gram negative resistant infections are further leading to the dramatic wave in antibiotic resistant species and strains. Both planktonic bacteria as well as bacterial biofilms are some of the major challenges for both diagnosis and treatment, in both biomedicine and current antimicrobial therapies. Today, even the best available antibiotic of the 21Ist Colistin (polymyxin E) which is currently used as a ‘last line resort’ in the treatment of MDR infections are gradually becoming resistant, against MDR gram-negative bacteria. In current antimicrobial therapies, amphipathic antibiotic drugs are becoming resistant due to their poor penetration through outer cell membrane only present in such gram-negative bacteria. Green nanobiotechnology using Plant waste material, particularly Leave Extracts has, therefore, emerged as an excellent cost-effective and non-toxic paradigm for the formulation of 'Green Nanobiotic' against virulent Gram-negative MDR strains. Currently, I am carrying out my Project on the biogenic formulation of biogenic PEG coated-Colistin loaded Silver nanoparticles using Olive Leaf Extracts. The Research is being carried under the Supervision of Pro.Dr Bushra Mirza from the Department of Biochemistry, Quaid-E-Azam University and Co-supervision of Dr.Shahid Waseem, the Managing Director of Alpha Genomic Laboratory Private Limited.

Early Diagnosis of Heart Attack by Innovative Membrane Test Strips

DNA Test: Disguise to a Verdict

Amplicon-Seq: A cost-effective and better substitute of sanger sequencing for population genetics studies

Sanger sequencing has been a gold standard of DNA sequencing for decades. However the Next-generation sequencing (NGS) has replaced the Sanger Sequencing in projects involving whole genome sequencing in recent decade. Besides whole genome sequencing (of plants, animals, microbes, etc.), a range of other NGS applications have made their way in sequencing, including transcriptome sequencing, exome sequencing, metagenomics, RNA-Seq, and customized disease panels.

Woman beats cancer using TURMERIC after stopping all treatment

A woman who has been suffering from blood cancer for a decade has finally stalled the terminal disease, that too with the help of turmeric. Dieneke Ferguson shares her story of how she's finally living a normal life after giving up on treatments that just wore her down without any success. Ferguson, the owner of a non-profit foundation that helps artists make their work, believes more research should be carried out so doctors can finally recommend the spice to their patients.

Malaria: a global health burden
